It's
getting increasingly difficult
to find the correct curved-glass sealed or semi-sealed beam headlamps for four-headlight
cars such as the Cloud 3 (and Phantom equivalent) and the Silver Shadows and
Corniches.
These cars, along with many others using 5 3/4 inch 3-lug lights in their four-headlight systems, are increasingly seen with non-standard lights with a flatter, squarer profile. They work fine but they just don't look right somehow.
Fortunately, if you know where to look, you can still get the real deal at the right price. The answer was reported in the September 2004 issue of Classic and Sports Car Magazine, p 170. The article was actually about a Jensen Interceptor, but the magic reference to R-R in the article was spotted by club member John Newman-Browne.
The "old-fashioned" lights are fitted to the Nissan Cabstar commercial vehicle, and the part number is 26702 89993.
And they are cheap (cheaper than the identical R-R supplied part).
I haven't actually gone to Nissan and verified this in person, mainly because my Shadow's original sealed beams are fine, thank you very much. I hope I don't have to. But --- Winged Messenger will be delighted to hear from any member who tests this information.
