2006 Concours d'Elegance
Stirling
Square, Guildford, May 5, 2006
Review and Pics by Terry Walker
What
a beautiful day at was at Guildford's historic Stirling Square for the
2006 Concours d'Elegance. Again the mellow backdrop of the old church.
With a convenient rotunda to provide shade for the picnic lunches, it was
an ideal site.
It not only attracted a number of interested spectators who walked in to admire the cars, but two non-members in Silver Clouds dropped in too, and were made welcome. And the bakers' shop over in the Guildford Strip got splended reviews from members who sourced their lunch there.
The fly in the ointment was that only 2 cars had been formally entered before the day, as required. These two were augmented on the spot by several others, and the concours judging went ahead, but it was less than ideal.
The concours, the club's centrepiece event and the source of the awards presented at the annual President's Dinner, seems to be in decline. This is a phenomon not confined to our Club, I have heard similar stories from other classic clubs. Perhaps it's a temporary blip on the graph. I certainly hope so.
